Did you know that around 1 in 5 Australians experience the unpleasant symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) at some time in their life? Irritable bowel syndrome is what doctors call symptoms of bloating or gas, constipation, diarrhoea, cramping. Simply put, your bowel is just irritable!

If you have experienced these symptoms and have visited your doctor, you may have been told that the ‘cause is unknown’, and may have been sent on your merry way with nothing more than the advice to eat more fibre or take a medication such as Metamucil.

Unfortunately medications such as Metamucil can make symptoms worse and do not treat the root cause of why your bowel is irritated in the first place!  IBS can be super frustrating and uncomfortable so what can do if you are experiencing IBS symptoms? Where do you start?

Diet, food allergens or sensitivities. The first place to look is at what you are eating! What foods are causing the irritation to your bowel and digestive system? Highly processed food, sugars, alcohol, processed meats, can all cause inflammation to your body. Gluten and dairy are the big players when it comes to foods that can be problematic for most, causing inflammation and irritation so eliminating these can really help. There are many, many other foods people can react to, including soy, corn, and eggs. Try an elimination diet to rid of common food sensitivities. Start with dairy, gluten and sugar and try a very basic whole food diet for a few weeks. A health care practitioner such a naturopath can help you to work out which foods are causing you grief and help tailor an eating program for you.

Imbalance of your gut bugs and other nasties- Did you know that you have trillions of bacterial cells that live in your gut, with over 500 different species. These bacterias make up the ecosystem of your gut, your microbiome.  If you have too many of the bad guys living in your gut, then your ecosystem can become out of balance. Medication/antibitotic use, environment toxins and chemical, stress and processed foods all kill off your gut bugs. Re-inoculate your gut with healthy bacteria taking a good probiotic and eating probiotic-rich foods like kimchi, kombucha, miso, or sauerkraut. An overgrowth of yeast (Candidia) and parasites can also contribute it IBS so clearing out these will help too. We love Quenda Ultimate fibre. It will clear out parasites, yeasts, pathogens and help to feed the good gut bacteria in your gut! Using in combination with Coffee enemas which will help to clear parasites and yeasts such as Candidia is a super power for saying goodbye to IBS!

Anxiety/Stress – Let’s face it. Who does not feel stressed at some point! ‘Stress’ is a term health care providers use to describe normal responses to the body that are needed for health and survival. Our bodies are wired to respond to stress for example, if you’re being chased by a lion, your body knows to how to get the hell out of there by increasing heart rate, blood flow etc However Chronic stress and being in fight/flight mode can cause havoc on your gut! Look at where you can minimise stress, breathing techniques, meditation, gentle movement, getting into natures and taking time to slow down and relax is going to really help! Enemas can support your body to shift from sympathetic (fight/flight mode) to parasympathetic (rest and digest) mode and our anti-inflammatory blend is soothing and healing and can help reduce inflammation caused by stress.

A leaky gut – A leaky gut occurs when the gut lining is interrupted. Normally, your intestinal cells are stuck together like Legos. But when they come apart or separate, food proteins and bacteria leak in and they start aggravating your immune system. This triggers inflammation. Not only will you have irritable bowel but a leaky gut can also cause joint pain, fatigue, cognitive problems, depression, allergies, congestion, and rashes like eczema. Colonics and enemas can assist help to heal leaky gut by removing toxins from your body, and clear old and mucous from your bowel.
